Plugged the PCM into a brave friend's XJ and it exhibited the exact same symptoms. I have spent all day plugging and unplugging things and checking voltage and resistance etc etc.
The XJ can pull that weight with less trouble than you'd expect, but stopping it is a real problem. Also beware your first couple times out at highway speed or in high winds, the XJ's light.

XJ was also better fuel milage than my ZJ's. in my current 98 ZJ, i get about 14 in the city and 18 highway or so. i got 17 city and just over 20 highway in my 97 XJ. with less money invested,.
Ok, seems to be some confusion on how to install a trans cooler in a XJ with a AW4 auto trans. Some people cant figure out what line is the supply or return. Ill post this write-up to make it.
